2015 Highlights

Take a look at some of our highlights from the 2015 Awards Gala.

OVER 30 people from the Midlands and the North West of England received awards in recognition of their stellar work in business and community service at the inaugural staging of the BEX Live and Frizzle TV business and hair industry awards dinner in Birmingham on October 24.last year.

The event attracted over 350 guests at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole near the NEC and the audience were treated to a sumptuous three-course meal and a great night of entertainment spearheaded by a live reggae band.

Performances on the night also came courtesy of a special soul cabaret dedicated to the best of Motown music along with inspirational songs by gospel legend, Sandra Godley.

The special guest on the night was double Olympic heptathlon champion and local girl from Wolverhampton, Denise Lewis, who was accompanied by her mother. Denise later picked up the Frizzle TV Best Celebrity Relaxed Hair award.

Other big name celebrities to pick awards were popular Birmingham TV chef Rustie Lee who won a BEX Live Lifetime Award and Eastenders actress Ellen Thomas who won The Frizzle TV ‘Best Celebrity Wig and Weave’ award.

Bill Brown from BEX Live, Coventry-based TV presenter Trish Adudu and business partner Latoya Mhango,  from Frizzle TV were the brains behind the awards which was billed as a night to honour the enterprise and innovations by people of colour in the Midlands and the North of England. Bill Brown in his welcome speech said that people of colour had contributed greatly to business and economic development within the regions and many times their efforts go unrecognised.

Frizzle TV, the online home hair care shopping channel, which launched early last year, has been gaining in popularity and their awards focused on people in the hair industry and celebrities who are recognised for their trade mark hair styles.

Six community stalwarts received BEX Live Life Time Achievement awards for their contributions to various endeavours which enhanced social enterprise, business and sports within the communities they have served. They were: Lloyd Blake, Sted Wallen, Gloria Spence and Sonia Parnell from Birmingham, Hartley Hanley from Manchester and Richard Renwick from Nottingham.
